Growing up along the Kona coast, Heather Mettler has been inspired throughout her life by the lush forests, sea life, and volcanic landscapes of Hawai‘i. She began her journey in glass as a teenager apprenticing in sandblasting, before honing her skills at the Pilchuck Glass School and later graduating with a BFA in Glass from the University of Hawai‘i.
For over 20 years, Heather has explored the versatility of glass through blowing, casting, and sand-etching, always inspired by the way light transforms the medium. To her, glass is like water—fluid, radiant, and alive when illuminated—making it the perfect canvas for interpreting the beauty of Hawai‘i’s land and sea.
