The Small Round Clear Bud Vase with Etched ʻŌhiʻa is a delicate yet striking piece of glass art by Big Island artist Heather Mettler. With its graceful rounded shape, crystal-clear surface, and sand-etched ʻŌhiʻa design, this vase captures the quiet beauty of Hawai‘i’s native landscapes. Perfect for displaying a single bloom or standing alone as a decorative accent, it brings refined island elegance into any setting.
Heather Mettler has spent more than two decades mastering the versatility and luminosity of glass. Raised on the Kona coast, she grew up surrounded by lush ferns, lava fields, and ocean horizons that continue to inspire her work. After apprenticing with a sandblasting artist, she honed her craft at the prestigious Pilchuck Glass School and went on to earn her BFA in Glass from the University of Hawai‘i.
Her art celebrates the fluidity and light-reflecting qualities of glass, often inspired by the Pacific Ocean and Hawai‘i’s rich natural world. Heather views glass as living and dynamic—like water, it transforms when touched by light, glowing with depth and texture.
This small, rounded bud vase embodies balance and simplicity, while the etched ʻŌhiʻa motif connects it to Hawai‘i’s forests and native flora. Whether illuminated by sunlight or candlelight, the design reveals subtle textures that make the vase feel alive. Compact yet full of artistry, it is equally at home holding a single flower stem or displayed as a collectible object of beauty.
