Heather Mettler grew up on the Kona coast of Hawai‘i, where the volcanic landscapes, lush forests, and surrounding Pacific Ocean shaped her creative vision. She began her journey apprenticing in sandblasting, refined her skills at the Pilchuck Glass School, and earned a BFA in Glass from the University of Hawai‘i.
For more than two decades, Heather has worked in glass, exploring its fluid, light-filled potential. She often draws inspiration from Hawai‘i’s flora and marine life, blending contemporary design with natural motifs to create luminous pieces that glow when illuminated.
The turquoise hue reflects the colors of the Pacific, while the etched starfish celebrates the resilience and wonder of Hawai‘i’s marine life.
