Clyde Oishi was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. The son of a television technician, he followed in his father’s footsteps working in the electronics industry. His undying interest in art led him to study at the University of Hawaii, earning a BA in Studio Arts. After leaving school, he soon developed a unique sculpture building technique which combines an industrial background and a formal art education. It involves soldering wires together into a grid-like form, then slowly adding more and more wires to form a solid sculptural mass. In many ways, it is a fusion of sorts. The technique later became known as the “Oishi Technique”, a moniker given to him by his first student David Messing. Oishi’s works varies from abstract designs to concise illustrations. He has won numerous awards and juried exhibitions. And is part of many corporate and private collections worldwide. Presently teaching his technique, his students are now a part of his new-found inspiration.
