Hawaiian Māmaki Tea
Tasting Notes: Naturally sweet, slightly earthy, with hints of hazelnut, bamboo, and honey. Medium-bodied with an amber color.
Caffeine-Free
Weight: 1 ounce (28g)
Deep in the lush volcanic forests of Hawai'i grows Māmaki, a remarkable plant revered by indigenous Hawaiians for its healing properties. Unlike traditional tea, Māmaki is an herbal tisane from the Nettle family, known as the “healer of the forest.”
This soothing, detoxifying tea offers a slightly sweet flavor with natural notes of hazelnut, bamboo, and honey. Brewed into a silky, medium-bodied, amber-colored beverage, it’s a restorative drink with mood-enhancing benefits. Māmaki tea is high in antioxidants and polyphenols, which support cardiovascular health, neuroprotection, and even possess mild anti-cancer properties. It’s also beneficial for treating infections, boosting mood, and promoting overall wellness.
Māmaki is rich in zinc and potassium, often used to support healthy blood pressure, and plays an important role in local rainforest restoration efforts, providing habitat for the endangered Kamehameha butterfly.
Big Island Coffee Roasters’ Māmaki tea is grown pesticide-free on a regenerative farm in Volcano, Hawai'i, at 4,000 ft. elevation, ensuring both high quality and environmental responsibility.
How to Brew Māmaki Tea
Hot Brew: Use 1-2 tablespoons (1-2g) per 8-10 oz boiling water. Steep for 10 minutes (longer for a thicker, syrupy texture).
Iced Brew (Overnight Steep): Crumble 1/4 cup of Māmaki in a quart jar or French press. Fill with boiling water and steep overnight.
Brewing Tips:
Māmaki leaves can be reused for a second steep.
Skip the milk and white sugar; sweeten with local honey for a perfect touch.
For maximum health benefits, brew a gallon at once, steep overnight, and store in the fridge for a refreshing drink throughout the week.
Pesticide-free and grown sustainably, Big Island Coffee Roasters’ Māmaki tea offers both a comforting cup and a connection to the Hawaiian rainforest.
