The Medium Amber Pebble Vase with Etched ʻŌhiʻa is a handcrafted glass piece by Big Island artist Heather Mettler, radiating the warmth of Hawai‘i’s landscapes. With its glowing amber tones, pebble-like texture, and delicately etched ʻŌhiʻa blossom, this vase honors one of the islands’ most iconic native flowers. Elegant yet organic, it’s equally striking as a centerpiece or a subtle decorative accent.
Heather Mettler grew up on the Kona coast of Hawai‘i, where the volcanic earth, lush forests, and coastal waters deeply shaped her artistic vision. Her passion for glass began as a teenager apprenticing with a sandblasting artist, later refined at the prestigious Pilchuck Glass School, and culminating with a BFA in Glass from the University of Hawai‘i.
For over 20 years, Heather has been inspired by glass as a medium that behaves like water—fluid, textural, and alive with light. Her work often incorporates Hawaiian motifs, bringing together the natural rhythms of the islands with the timeless elegance of handblown glass.
The amber pebble surface reflects the warmth of volcanic stone, while the etched ʻŌhiʻa design celebrates a flower that symbolizes resilience, strength, and aloha. The medium size makes this vase a versatile piece—large enough to hold tropical stems yet perfectly suited for display on its own. When illuminated, it glows from within, echoing the vibrant life of Hawai‘i’s forests.
