Cindy Imada was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA where she has always had a passion for creating art. Her love of 'clay' stemmed from her study of ceramics in 1977 at the University of Redlands, CA (5 years) under the guidance of the late and great ceramicist Leon Moburg.Cindy teaches all mediums of art to students in the DOE, at the Honolulu Museum of Art School, and to home schooled students. She also teaches an adult ceramics class through the Parks & Recreation here in Hawaii. Each of Cindy’s ceramic pieces is thrown on a potter's wheel from merely a lump of clay. When the piece is 'leather hard' it is trimmed on the wheel for its final shape. The original designs are drawn free-handed on each piece with a 'needle point' tool and then 'pierced' through the wall of the clay with a 'fettling knife'. The design is 'incised' and/or beveled and then smoothed out to make the art flow. The pot is then 'bisqued fired' prepping it to be glazed by hand painting the white glaze on and then put in the final glaze firing.
