Dwayne Adams is a Kailua-based watercolor artist whose work embodies the living spirit of the islands. After a 40-year career as a landscape architect, Dwayne redirected his lifelong rendering skills toward fine art, drawn to watercolor for its immediacy and vitality. “Watercolor is alive,” he says — “the movement of water and color creates drama that unfolds as a painting progresses.”
Dwayne paints both plein air and in his Kailua studio, capturing Hawaiʻi’s landscapes, local architecture, and the subtleties of daily island life. A member of the Hawaiʻi Watercolor Society and former Signature Member of the Alaska Watercolor Society, his award-winning paintings have been exhibited across Hawaiʻi, Alaska, and Colorado.
In addition to painting, Dwayne teaches watercolor at the Downtown Art Center in Honolulu, guiding beginning and intermediate students through the expressive possibilities of the medium.
