Heather Mettler grew up on the Kona coast of Hawai‘i, surrounded by lush ferns, lava fields, sea turtles, dolphins, and ocean vistas that continue to inspire her work. Her fascination with glass began as a teenager apprenticing under a sandblasting artist, before expanding her skills at the Pilchuck Glass School and earning a BFA in Glass from the University of Hawai‘i.
Over the past 20 years, she has mastered glassblowing, sand-etching, and casting, developing a style that mirrors the qualities of water—versatile, textural, and alive with light. Her pieces celebrate the natural rhythms of Hawai‘i, balancing bold form with subtle detail.
