John Baran is a California based artist with Hawaiian ancestry. His mother was a professional artist, and he spent his childhood surrounded by and nurtured by creativity. Originally only painting abstracts, he began to become obsessed with photography . . . in particular, wildlife photography. His abstract style helped him transition into creating whimsical and unique wildlife art. He has spent countless hours on land and in the sea, sharing space with everything from sea turtles to tiger sharks, to manatees to lions, herds of elephants and more. He observes these animals in their natural environments, photographing and sketching them as inspiration for his work.
