Revered since the ancient times, Acacia Koa, is one of Hawaii’s most beautiful endemic woods. The incredible figuring in the grain ranges from straight, to curly, to tiger striped, to a deep fiddle back. The most dramatic pieces take on a three dimensional appearance and the look changes as one moves around it.
Acacia Koa only grows in Hawaii and is in short supply. One of the world’s most sought after woods, it figures that stock is becoming increasingly rare. Much of the furniture, musical instruments, bowls, jewelry and jewelry boxes crafted of koa have become heirloom pieces and are handed down through generations.
This box is made by local artist Bobby Yamauchi, and measures 9.5″ x 6.5″ x 2″.
